In 2010, almost of the downhill trails on Boulder Mountain were logged, leaving the RCA with a long to-do list of rebuilds. Four seasons later, Boulder now boasts eight downhill oriented trails, including a flowy intermediate trail that is a favourite among many. After the biking season in 2013, the RCA conducted a study, open to the community at large, to evaluate the club’s progress and find out what riders wanted.
In response, the DH committee has maintained technical downhill trials, despite active logging, built dirt table tops and completely rejuvenated the Detention Center on lower Boulder to replace old wooden stunts with dirt jumps suitable for a wide range of skills.
2015 is shaping up to be a busy year – we are planning on building some infrastructure in the parking lot, an intermediate jump line near the Hotdog Hallway, a trail to connect Rednecks Revenge to Home Run and getting starting on building a progressive gravity trail from km 9 on the main road all the way down to the bottom of Iron Lotus! On top of all these builds, we’d like to keep running the DH race series, but can’t do it without help from members and we need some volunteers to help run the races – if you’re interested, please send us an email.
