112 Steakhouse Road Race #4 Results

RoadRaceHillClimbJune10The final spring series road race presented by One Twelve Steakhouse found a competitive field taking on the challenges of multiple rolling laps before a hill-top finish which had one of the volunteers likening the race to the Tour de France.

Whilst the climb might have lacked the length of many of the Tour's stage-ending climbs it seemed likely to separate any group that made it to the bottom together. This turned out to be the case, but not before Rich Hamilton had won the combativity award as he got away from the field, first working with Kellen Viznaugh and then solo until the peleton eventually clawed him back. But even after being caught Hamilton's pace setting up the many punchy hills had the rest of the field wondering how a man in his second half-century of life could possess such speed and power!Despite Hamilton's efforts Dave Healey led a group of 7 riders into the final climb before Viznaugh set the pace as the gradient got steeper. One by one the group fell back from Viznaugh's wheel until he outsprinted Stuart Smith in the final metres to take a well deserved victory. Viznaugh is clearly on great form winning 3 of the 4 spring races.A smaller turnout of ladies left Courtney Rennie finishing strongly to take the win ahead of Amanda Macintosh. Thanks are owed to the wonderful team of volunteers who ensured all the races ran smoothly.Click here for detailed results. This was the final scheduled road race in the spring Twoonie series but there is still one more XC race on Wednesday after the DH race on Sunday.Plans are being made for a weekend of racing during Bike Fest week in September and it is hoped that the Steamer will be run on Saturday, September 12 with a 112km GranFondo on Sunday, September 13.
