Youth Rides Are Back For Spring 2024!
The RCA and Stoke Youth Network are partnering to offer two free group rides for grades six and seven students this year.
ShredHERS is a bi-weekly group mountain bike ride open to all girls in grades six and seven. New this year is ShredCOED, which is open to all grade six and seven students. The rides will be held on alternating Tuesday, from April 30 to June 18. These rides will be led by qualified guides from Wandering Wheels, and supported by teachers, parents, and high school students. Free rentals are available to those without bikes. Our aim is to provide a safe, encouraging space for all girls, regardless of abilities, to take part in mountain biking.
Please register in advance by Sunday at 10 p.m. using our online form. This will help us ensure we have enough vehicles on hand to help transport everyone to the trailhead.
We would like to thank the Revelstoke Credit Union for supporting our Youth Rides through its Community Giving program. If you would like to support our youth rides so we can expand this program, please email ed@bikerevelstoke.org.
Rental information
We are happy to offer free bike rentals to participate in our youth rides. Due to a limited availability of rental bikes in town, we may not be able to accommodate everyone, but we will do our best.
Bicycles are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and parents are responsible for reserving the rental when they register, signing the waiver, paying the damage deposit, and collecting and returning the rental at the appropriate time.
Youth rides FAQ
Q: Where do the youth rides meet?
A: Our youth rides meets Tuesdays at 3 p.m. at Wandering Wheels, at 706 Victoria Road, from April 30 to June 8. The complete schedule is as follows:
ShredHERS is on April 30, May 14, May 28, and June 11.
ShredCOED is on May 7, May 21, June 4, and June 18.
Q: Where will the rides take place?
A: Rides will most likely take place on Mount Macpherson, but we may head elsewhere.
Q: Do I need to sign up my child in advance?
A: You don’t need to register your child in advance, but it is strongly encouraged. This will help ensure we have enough vehicles available to transport everyone to and from the trailhead. Click here to register.
Q: Do I need to sign a waiver?
A: Yes. All parents or guardians must sign the waiver. You can do so online here.
Q: Who is leading the rides?
A: The rides will be led by qualified mountain bike guides from Wandering Wheels. They will be assisted by teachers and parents.
Q: Does my child need mountain biking experience?
A: No experience is required, but some experience definitely helps. Some coaching will be provided, but this is supposed to be a group ride and not a kids camp, so the focus is on riding trails.
Q: My child doesn’t have a bike but really wants to take part. Can they rent one?
A: We have a limited number of free rental bikes available. Please let us know by the Monday before the ride if you need one when you register and we will do our best to accommodate.
Q: Is there a limit to how many children can take part each week?
A: There is no limit, but we may need help with transportation and supervision during the rides if we are overwhelmed by numbers. This would be a great problem to have.
