More Logging Planned For MacPherson, Boulder, and Frisby
Many of you have already heard the unfortunate news that there are plans to harvest timber from several blocks that overlap many of the RCA's trails. Click on each location name to see a map of the planned harvesting.
- Macpherson (map): TNT, Black Forest, and Ridge Walk (planned by BC Timber Sales - BCTS)
- Boulder (map): Rednecks, Iron Lotus (planned by Stella-Jones)
- Frisby (map): Lower portion of Ultimate Frisby (planned by Stella-Jones)
The last RCA Board meeting was dominated by discussion of this news. The Board is currently drafting letters to each of BCTS and Stella-Jones to specifically outline the RCA's position regarding the proposed logging. Ideally there would be no logging on the lands upon which we have built such a tremendous recreational resource for locals and tourists alike. However, it has long been understood that we have built trails upon working lands from which resources are legally allowed to be removed. In light of this it is our goal to maintain a working relationship with all stakeholders in hopes of minimizing the impact to our trails, the impact to our local scenery, and the redundant expenditure of public funds to rebuild trails that may very well be logged yet again.BCTS harvesting in the Macpherson area is not expected to happen until 2016 and Stella-Jones do not have immediate plans for the area around lower Ultimate Frisby. The RCA intends to meet with BCTS and Stella-Jones to gain more details and obtain the best outcome for the trail network. The RCA will also be requesting open houses so members can see harvest plans first hand and ask questions directly to BCTS and Stella-Jones.RCA members are encouraged to send constructive comments and suggestions to revybiker@gmail.com to assist the RCA in presenting the views of the membership. Members may also choose to contact BCTS, Stella-Jones, the Ministry of Forest Recreation Officer or elected government officials individually should they wish.
