Revelstoke’s new mountain bike trail network approved
Phase one of the Sunnyside network will include a climb trail (in red) and three downhill trails (in green). The Revelstoke Cycling Association is excited to announce that phase one of our new Sunnyside mountain bike trail network is approved. After many years of work by club volunteers, extensive planning, and consultation with local stakeholders, Recreation Sites & Trails BC has approved development of this new trail network. The Sunnyside network will be located on the southern flank of Mount Mackenzie, only 12 kilometres south of Revelstoke, at the existing Mount Cartier trail head. The approval gives the RCA the opportunity to develop a modern trail network from the ground up in a forest that is not impacted by logging. Plans for phase one include a gentle climb trail, a blue flow/jump trail, and two black technical descent trails. The trails will be uni-directional, so riders ascend one way and descend dedicated downhill trails of varying difficulties. These trails will be open to e-bikes.With an enduro-focused design, it will complement our existing networks of cross-country (Macpherson), downhill (Boulder), and alpine trails (Frisby Ridge).Phase one will climb several hundred metres above the valley floor, reaching a bluff with beautiful views of the Columbia River and Monashee Mountains.Construction of the climb trail, which was previously approved, is well underway. Landmark Trailworks was awarded the contract to complete the climb trail and will build the intermediate flow/jump trail. They are an experienced trail building company that is responsible for the Sun Peaks bike park and Kamloops Bike Ranch, amongst others. The trails are closed until construction is complete in order to prevent damage to the trails and conflict with the builders. Please respect all closures to allow the trail crew to work safely and efficiently, and to avoid the risk of injury. The RCA will let you know when they are open and ready to ride.Future phases will see development of trails higher up the mountain, however they are subject to approval by Recreation Sites & Trails BC.
