Road Race #1 - RESULTS

Presented by the 112 Steakhouse, the first Twoonie Road Race of 2015 was 40km of fast and furious road racing. Read-on for full results, photos, & the race summary...

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe prize sprint at the end of the first lap promised to be close with a number of riders in good position but in the end nobody seriously challenged Kellen Viznaugh at the line. And Kellen did not rest on his laurels as he started the second lap off quickly and  teamed up with Chris Bovard to break away from the peloton. The chasing group of 6 strong riders did not close the gap and with about 5km to go were down to only four chasing the two out front. However Rich Hamilton put in a strong effort to pull the chasers back to the leaders who had been working hard together for over 15km.

This meant a group of six came in to the home straight with a frantic sprint finish likely. Bovard still had the energy to lead out up the last rise and when he slowed Stuart Smith put in a sprint that broke the field apart except for Viznaugh who was on Smith's wheel. At the line Vinaugh's effort brought him almost level but Smith held on for the win by less than half a wheel length.

The first lady home was Emily Suchy closely followed by Amanda MacIntosh. Click here to view the full results. The second 112 Steakhouse Twoonie Road Race is the Mason Road Crit on Wednesday, May 13.
