XC Race #4 - Wet 'n' Wild in the Woods!
The 4th race of the Arrow Helicopters XC Series got off to a thunderous start Wednesday. Unfortunately it was thunderous in the literal rather than figurative sense. With fingers crossed that the storm would hold off, 21 riders braved the conditions to sign up for the race. As luck would have it the main storm cell hit hard 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. After waiting for the worst of the rain, winds and lightning to pass we still held an abbreviated one lap version of the race. I think riders were happy to have tested themselves against the slick conditions, however they were also happy to only subject themselves to one lap! Australian pro Paul Van der Ploeg won his second race of the season while still managing to clear several trees off the trail while riding at the front. Thanks for the trail work Paul! Close behind in second was Marty Schaffer while Josh Sinclair won a tight battle for third. Emily Unterberger won her third race of the season on the women's side ahead of Anne-Marie Baribeau and Courtney Rennie.Our next race will be held on August 6th at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Race details will be posted later next week but expect two laps of Faultline and Big Easy with the start and finish at Revelation Lodge.
